Your license
A separate DMV case
None of these courthouses decides your driving privilege. The DMV handles it, and a Driver Safety hearing officer decides it if you ask for a hearing.
Ask within 10 days of receiving the DMV notice to get a hearing before the suspension takes effect. The notice is usually given at the arrest.
The DMV’s current Driver Safety office list shows no office in this county. For Driver Safety, the DMV lists (833) 543-7703 and an online portal. Hearings may be held remotely or in person.
THE COURT’S OWN STEPS
From release to arraignment
These steps summarize the Superior Court’s criminal division page.
AFTER THE ARREST
Release, bail, or a promise to appear
The court’s criminal page describes what can follow an arrest. You may be released without charges, post bail, or be released on your own recognizance, which is a promise to return to court. Otherwise you stay in custody until an arraignment.
The court’s felony and misdemeanor bail schedule took effect January 1, 2026, with a revision on June 4, 2026. Judges can adjust scheduled bail and may set zero bail.
BEFORE COURT
What the court asks you to bring
The court’s list includes photo ID and your citation, appearance letter, or jail release papers. Bring any bail or bond receipts and proof that you followed earlier court orders.
Use your legal name as it appears on your documents. If something on your papers is wrong, tell the court.
FIRST COURT DATE
Arraignment and plea
At the arraignment, you hear the charges and your rights, and you can ask for a lawyer if you cannot afford one. The court’s page names three pleas: not guilty, guilty, and no contest.
State law generally lets a lawyer appear for you in a misdemeanor case. In DUI cases, the court may still require you in person at the arraignment, plea, or sentencing.
OFFICIAL NUMBERS
DUI arrests in San Bernardino County
The DMV’s 32nd DUI-MIS report, published in 2025, counts 7,169 DUI arrests in the county in 2019. The count fell to 5,631 in 2020 and rose to 6,320 in 2021.
In 2021, 94.0% of those arrests were misdemeanors and 5.8% were felonies. That year there were 0.4 DUI arrests per 100 licensed drivers in the county.
The same report names five counties with more than 6,000 DUI arrests in 2021: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego. Together they had 46.5% of the state’s total.
The San Bernardino Police Department announced a DUI checkpoint for May 29, 2026, funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant.
RESULTS IN THIS COUNTY
Seven court cases and one DMV hearing
Our Success Stories page lists seven DUI court cases in San Bernardino County. Five were at the Rancho Cucamonga Courthouse (2014 to 2026), one at the San Bernardino Justice Center (2011), and one at the Fontana Courthouse (2010). Today, the Fontana courthouse no longer accepts criminal filings. It also lists a 2015 DMV hearing, which our records place at a San Bernardino Driver Safety office. That office is not on the DMV’s current office list. Below are the two most recent Rancho Cucamonga cases, the San Bernardino Justice Center case, the Fontana case, and that DMV hearing. In each court case, the DUI charge was dismissed and the client pleaded to a “wet reckless.” That is a reckless driving conviction entered with a statement that alcohol or drugs were involved (Vehicle Code 23103.5). It counts as a prior if there is a new DUI within 10 years. In the DMV case, the hearing officer set aside the license suspension. That is a DMV license decision, not a court result.
