Riverside County DUI Lawyer
The court’s filing order sends felony and misdemeanor cases from 28 cities to five courthouses, based on where the offense happened.
RIVERSIDE AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY
Five criminal courthouses, one filing order
Riverside County has about 2.5 million residents, including about 322,000 in the City of Riverside, according to the state’s January 2026 estimate.
Local Rule 4001 says criminal cases are filed by the ZIP code where the alleged offense happened. The court’s administrative order, effective May 5, 2022, names the courthouse for each city and community.
Our published case results do not include any Riverside County court. Our only office is in Los Angeles, at 3810 Wilshire Blvd.
THE COURT’S FILING ORDER

TWO EXCEPTIONS
Two filing details worth checking
Hemet and San Jacinto
Felony and misdemeanor cases from Hemet and San Jacinto are filed at the Banning Justice Center. Traffic infractions from those cities go to the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta instead.
A DUI is a criminal case, not an infraction. So a traffic ticket from Hemet may point to a different courthouse than a DUI arrest there.
The CHP Temecula exception
The order lets the CHP Temecula office keep citing some freeway cases to the Southwest Justice Center. This covers State Route 74 through Perris, including parts of Homeland and Romoland.
It also covers Interstate 215 through Perris and Menifee, and, in the order’s words, State Route 79 “north/south through Domenigoni Parkway.” Other Perris cases are filed at the Hall of Justice.

Your license
The DMV hearing is not in court
The license suspension is handled by the DMV’s Driver Safety branch, not by any of these five courthouses. The DMV’s current Driver Safety office list includes no office in Riverside County.
Request a hearing within 10 days of receiving the DMV notice if you want one before the suspension takes effect. The officer usually gives you that notice at the arrest.
Driver Safety can be reached at (833) 543-7703 or through the DMV’s online portal. Hearings may be held remotely or in person.
THE COURT’S OWN RULES
Custody, calendars, and missed dates
These steps come from the Riverside Superior Court’s criminal division pages.
IN CUSTODY
The 48-hour rule and 1:30 p.m. calendars
The court says people in custody may be held for 48 hours, not counting weekends and court holidays. In-custody hearings start at 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, in Riverside, Banning, Murrieta, and Indio.
State law entitles a person arraigned only on misdemeanor charges to release on their own recognizance. The exception is when the court finds that release would compromise public safety or would not reasonably assure a return to court.
OUT OF CUSTODY
The date on your release paper
The court says misdemeanors, felonies, and warrants all require a court appearance, and the clerk cannot grant extensions. Only you or your lawyer, in court, can ask to move a date.
On the day, find your name on the posted calendar and go to that courtroom. If it is not listed, go to the Criminal Clerk’s Office.
IN THE COURTROOM
Generally in person
The court uses Zoom for remote appearances, but it says criminal hearings are generally in-person proceedings. In a misdemeanor case, a lawyer can generally appear for you. In a DUI case, though, the court may order you present at the arraignment, plea, or sentencing.
IF A DATE IS MISSED
Possible results of a missed date
The court lists possible results: forfeited bail or bond, an arrest warrant, and a driver’s license suspension. It also lists an added failure-to-appear charge and a $100 assessment under Penal Code 1214.1.
To appear on a warrant, report to the criminal division that issued it by 7:30 a.m.
COUNTY DATA
DUI arrests and traffic grants
The DMV’s 32nd DUI-MIS report counts 6,683 DUI arrests in Riverside County in 2019, 5,438 in 2020, and 6,776 in 2021. The 2021 figure was 24.6% above 2020.
Misdemeanors made up 96.7% of the 2021 arrests and felonies 3.2%. The county had 0.4 DUI arrests per 100 licensed drivers that year.
In November 2025, the Riverside Police Department announced three Office of Traffic Safety grants totaling $496,000. The grants run through September 2026.
Of that amount, $450,000 supports traffic enforcement. The department said this includes DUI checkpoints and distracted driving patrols.
